We had a change of plans this morning. Instead of performing our plays for the second graders this afternoon, we performed them this morning for the rest of the third grade. The students did an excellent job! I was very proud of them.
After performing our plays, we went to math. My math class reviewed what we had learned this year by playing Jeopardy.
Following math, the students went to music and enjoyed lunch and outdoor recess.
The children spent most of the afternoon with Mr. McGee doing a fun end of the year activity.
Remember, tomorrow is an early release day!

Career Day
During our morning reading block the children had a chance to participate in Career Day. They rotated amongst 7 different stations to hear about the responsibilities, requirements and expectations in various jobs including a police officer, a banker, a nurse, an army recruiter and a restaurant owner. Thanks to Mrs. Howard for organizing such a fun and informative activity!
Before visiting Career Day the children worked on their plays.
After Career Day the students went to math. My math class took our final assessment for this school year!
After math the children continued working on their Aztec brochures, with many groups beginning to finish up.
After lunch and outdoor recess, the students practiced their plays and worked on completing their scenery, costumes and props.
We will end the day by writing thank you notes for Career Day and finishing the Aztec brochures.
A couple of notes:
Students who ordered yearbooks received them today.
I will be out for my children's graduations on Thursday and Friday. I will be back on Monday. There will not be a blog post until Monday.

Terrific Tuesday
During our morning reading block the children practiced running through their plays using the scenery, props and costumes they had made. When they weren't performing, they continued making scenery, props and costumes.
In math the students worked independently on a review packet for unit 6. After the students were finished, we went over each problem. Students were expected to fix any mistakes and ask any questions they had. They will bring home this packet tonight. They are expected to use it to prepare for the unit assessment we will take, in class, tomorrow.
After math the children went to PE. Then they enjoyed lunch and outdoor recess.
Following recess, my reading students continued working on their plays. Then the entire school watched the DES band perform.
We ended the day with children working to publish their Aztec brochures in small group.

Monday
During our morning reading block the students continued working on their plays. Groups rotated between practicing the staging of the play, constructing props, scenery and costumes, and working on reading fluency and inflection.
In math the children used unifix cubes to build and identify the volume of given figures. Mrs. Benson worked with a small group to calculate elapsed time. There is a telling time worksheet for homework.
After math the children went to music. After that they enjoyed lunch and outdoor recess.

Welcome, June!!
This morning, during our reading block, we attended our final cultural arts show of the school year. A mime performed a show with the message that reading is important. The children LOVED it!
After the show we went to math. My math class took a quiz. The quizzes will be scored and returned today. Look for them in the math section of your child's binder. We will take the unit assessment towards the end of next week.
After math, the students visited the media center. Then they enjoyed lunch and outdoor recess.
This afternoon my reading class worked on their plays. Each group practiced performing their plays. While their group wasn't running through their play, they continued working on their scenery, props and costumes.
We ended the day with a class meeting to help calm the nerves of the children and reflect on the great year we've had.

Thursday...Staging our Plays
This morning my reading class worked in their small play groups and rotated through three stations, or tasks. These three activities included; staging their play, completing their props, costumes and materials lists and finishing their scenery sketch, and reading through their play working on inflection and fluency.
In math we practiced identifying coordinates on a grid by creating a mystery picture (a kite). The important things for students to remember is that you go over to the first number and up to the second. For example, (2, 1) would be going over to 2 and then up to 1. I taught them two tricks; you need to walk OVER to the stairs before you can walk up the steps OR O (for over) comes before U (for up) in the alphabet. There is a coordinate graphing worksheet for homework.
After math the students went to art, lunch and outdoor recess.
After recess, my reading class continued working on their plays. They practiced staging the play and running through their lines. Additionally, the groups began working on their scenery.

Mid Week, Already?
This week seems to be flying by...
This morning, during our reading block, the students worked in their small groups, reading through their plays emphasizing fluency and inflection. I had the chance to meet with all three groups and help them read through their play once.
In math we identified the total capacity of a container and the amount of liquid shown in that container. The students worked, independently, on a capacity worksheet and an elapsed time worksheet, before heading to anchor activities. I met with a small group to practice identifying elapsed time. There is a worksheet for homework.
After math, the children worked in their small groups on their Aztec brochures.
Following lunch and outdoor recess, my reading class got into their small play groups and reread their play. This time, as they read, they created lists of props and costumes ideas. They also sketched out a picture of the scenery they plan to draw.
