Terrific Tuesday

This morning the students completed the Monday and Tuesday sections of the vocabulary sheet for our new, and final, word of the week, indicate.  After that, they practiced their keyboarding skills using Typing Club, read quietly, or worked on their "Teach the Teacher" project.  After the announcements, we switched for math.

Math began with a warm up involving understanding the multiples of 11.  After that, the students took the final MCPS required math assessment.  This is not a grade that is entered into the grade book, but it is mandatory to administer the task.

During the math block, students took a break to enjoy lunch and outdoor recess.

WHen they returned to math class, they finished the MCPS required task, completed a session of Xtra Math , and then chose an online site, linked in GC,  to practice any math skill.

NO MATH HOMEWORK tonight or tomorrow night.

After math, we began our literacy block with a writing lesson.

Today the students reviewed all of their poetry drafts and selected one to revise and publish.  Then, as a class, we used our notes about poetry chart, and created the grading rubric which I will use to score their published poems.  Next, the students marked places in their draft where they could revise during writing time today.  After that, they had 20 minutes of silent writing time to revise and edit their poem.

After writing, we ate snack and reviewed how to compare first and second hand accounts of the same event or topic using two paragraphs.

Then, the students compared two accounts of the Civil War.  After that, they completed their Day 7 assignments for their book clubs.  Next, they used the screen cast to complete the using commas in letters task.  Finally, they used multiple links provided in GC - Social Studies to finish a quiz on the original 13 colonies focusing on economics and geography.

The children ended their day in art with Mrs. Daniell.
