Wonderful Wednesday

This morning the students completed the Wednesday portion of the vocabulary sheet for our word of the week, annual.  After that, they practiced their spelling skills as they played the online game, Torture the Teacher.  After the announcements, we switched for math.

Math began with a Soduko warm up.  Then, we decided, as a class, what to do during math with a partner and technology, since they earned that right by doing so well on MAP-M.

Today, during the small group lesson, we focused on classifying quadrilaterals using properties of their sides and angles.  During math with a partner, the student chose between playing Battle Ship (coordinate graphing) and Multiplication War (basic facts).  Finally, during the technology portion, the students completed a session of Xtra Math.  Then, they chose between playing a game on Math Playground (their choice) or choosing a game from the coordinate graphing Blendspace.

In between the second and third rotations, the students enjoyed lunch and outdoor recess.

Math homework is posted in GC.

After math, the students continued taking the MAP-R test that we began last Friday.

Once every student had completed the assessment, we ate snack and discussed the ¨Teach the Teacher¨ project that is due June 11.

Next, we began our writing lesson.  First, we reviewed our class list of notes about poems.  Then, we read a poem called, ¨Crickets,¨ and discussed the use of repetition and onomatopoeia in it.  After that, the students did a Quick Write, listing animals and things that make noise.  Next, the students wrote poems about animals or things that make noise using our notes about poems chart to get ideas.  Finally, a few volunteers shared their writing.

We ended the day with a social studies lesson.  We began exploring the history of our state capital, Annapolis.
