Terrific Tuesday

This morning the students commented about their weekend on our morning message.  Then they completed both the Monday and Tuesday sections of the vocabulary sheet for our new word of the week, annual.  Those who had time, then used Typing Club to practice their keyboarding skills.  After the announcements, we switched for math.

All math class took the MAP-M during our math block today.  The MAP-M is the computerized, self-adjusting, online math test that is given three times each year.  This test is helped to guide our planning and instruction.

During our math block, as per usual, the students enjoyed lunch and recess. When they returned to math, they continued with the MAP-M test.  We stayed in math groups until everyone had completed their testing.

When we switched back to homerooms, we began our literacy block with a writing lesson.  Today we read and discussed poems thinking about how they look on a page and the sensory details used.  Then, the students practiced writing poems using sensory details and different spacing.

After writing, the students read the next assignment for their book club and completed their job.  Finally, they met with the other students in their book club and discussed the text.

The students ended their day in art with Mrs. Daniell.
