Thrilling Thursday

This morning the students completed the Thursday portion of the vocabulary sheet forour word of the week, utilize.  Then, they worked on solving this week´s puzzles.  After the announcements, we switched for math.

Math began with a place value riddle warm up.  Then, we reveiwed the homework from last night.  After that, we began our rotations.

During the small group rotation, we practiced writing and interpreting numerical expresions using grouping symbols, such as, parentheses, braces, and brackets.  During math with a partner, the students played a Trap It! game to practice matching numerical expressions involving grouping symbols with written expressions with the same value.  Finally, during the technology portion, the children completed a session of Xtra Math and then used online sites to practice determining the volume of a solid.

In between the second and third rotation the students enjoyed lunch and outdoor recess.

Math homework is posted in GC.  There will NOT be a math formative tomorrow.

After math, we continued reading chaters 37-39 of Where the Mountain Meets the Moon.  After each chapter we practiced Stop*Think*Paraphrase to summarize it.

Then the students went to music.

After music, the students ate snack and complted their indepdent work tasks while I met with guided reading groups.
