Marvelous Monday

This morning the students wrote about their weekend as a commnet to our morning messgae.  Then, they completed the Monday section of the vocabulary sheet for our new word of the week, utilize.  After the morning announcements, we switched for math.

Math began with a wolume warm up.  Then, we began our rotations.

During the small group lesson, we determined the volume ofa solid compoased of 2 non-overlapping rectangular prisms.  During math with a partner, the students continued woprking on their Volume City projects.  Finally, during the technology rotation, the students completed a session of XTra Math and then continued working on their Volume City projects.

In between the second and third rotations, the students enjoyed lunch and outdoor recess.

Math homework is posted in GC.

After math, we began our literacy block with a reading lesson.  After reviewing first and third person points of view, we read and discussed chapters 25-29 of WTMMTM.

Then the children went to PE with Mr. Smith.

When they returned to class they ate snack while we did our writing lesson.  We began by reviewing the rules for punctuating dialogue and added it to our proofreading notes chart.  Then, we read two passages of text and corrected run-on sentences.

While I continued meeting with individual students to work on the bi-monthly, informal reading testing, the students worked on the following tasks.

First, they completed the Monday portion of the new reading skills paper.  After that, they watched a new screen cast about puntuating dialogue and completed a practice activity.  Next, they completed a follow up from our science unit, identifying and explaining the characteristics of the 4 major systems of Earth.  FInally, they revised their fiction sotry for correct punctuation of dialogue and run-on sentences.
