Math began with a missing operations warm up.  Next, we reviewed the homework that was assigned last Thursday night.  Finally, the students took the formative for week 5, which covered multiplication of multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm.

After enjoying lunch and outdoor recess, a few students took time to complete the formative.  Most of the students, though, completed a seesion of Xtra Math and practiced solving problems involving the multiplication of multi-digit whole numbers using online games.

Math homework is posted in GC.

After math, we began our literacy block by reviewing the strategy, Stop*Think*Paraphrase, used to summarize text.  Then we continued read chapters 10-13 of WTMMTM.

Next, the students worked indepdently, while I met with small groups.  FIrst, they completed the Friday portion of the reading skills page from last week.  After that, they read an assigned text that we will use for the MIRL (monthly informal reading assessment) that need s to be done this week.  Then, the children commpleted the opinion paragraph about getting, or giving up, birthday present.  Next, they watched a screen cast about singular, plural, and possessive nouns and completed a follow up practice activity.  Finally, the students continued typeong and revising their fictional pieces.

Today I met with small groups based upon their assigned text for MIRL.
