This morning the students completed the Friday portion of the vocabulary sheet for our word of the week, dispute. After that, they got to choose which academic skill to practice since it is Free Choice Friday! After watching the morning announcements, we switched for math.
Math began with a Challenge 24 warm up. Then, we reviewed the homework from last night. After that, the students took a short formative covering volume and completed a session of Xtra Math.
Next, the children enjoyed lunch and outdoor recess.
***After recess, I had to go to 2 doctors appointments, so the students completed the following activities with a substitute.***
The children spent the last portion of math constructing builidngs for the Volume City they began yesterday. As they created these, they noted the dimensions of each building and calculated the volume.
After math, they began their literacy block with a reading lesson. They will review point of view and read and discuss chapters 23 and 24 of WTMMTM.
Next, they will eat snack and take a movement break.
After that, they will have a writing lesson. They will review the proper punctuation of dialogue and then proofread their drafts for proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
During the independent work block the students hda time to finish up assignments from earlier in the week. These included the similes and metaphors identification, comparison, and interpretation chart, the noun worksheet, and typing and revising the final version of their fiction writing piece.
At the end of the day, the students reviewed the challenges faced by the Spanish settles in St. Augustine and wrote a paragraph explaining if the agreed or disagreed with the decision to settle there.
