We began our day with a visit from Ms. Alpatti, the children's librarian at the Damascus Library. She discussed all of the wonderful programing sponsored, free of charge, by the Montgomery County libraries this summer. The majority of her time was spent explaining the summer reading program. Students will bring home a lime green bookmark, about this year's program, with the theme of , "Dig into Reading", this evening. Look for it! For more information, visit their web site.
When we returned to class, we had our final class meeting. We began with the students sharing something they are proud of or accomplished this year. Then we shared compliments.
After the class meeting, the students worked on publishing their third grade newsletters, in their small groups. Two groups are revising and editing. So, progress is being made! :-)
In math, we continued working on the graphing project which the children began last week. Today, they created both a bar graph and a picture graph, on the laptops, to display their data. The groups could choose between on online graphing site, a graphing software package or using Word to construct graphs from scratch.
Following lunch and outdoor recess, we read chapters 5 and 6 of David's Adventures at the Chicago World's Fair. Then the children worked int heir small groups to identify at least 3 examples of cause and effect, from the two chapters, in their electronic RRJ.
We ended the day by revisiting the prototypes made, using the production plan, for the service project. Each group shared what else would be needed to complete the task, in class, tomorrow.
Reminder...Share your Favorite Book Day is tomorrow!! ALL students are expected to participate!
