This morning we began our reading and writing block by reviewing the for math of diamante poetry. Then students had the chance to share the diamante poems they wrote during independent work time yesterday. After that we reviewed the characteristics of fantasy literature. Next, using yesterday's read aloud, we discussed the author's message. Finally, we read Horton Hatches the Egg, by Dr. Seuss, identified the author's message and provided support from the book to prove the message.
In math we practiced counting and writing money up to $12. While students worked independently, I worked with a small group, counting money. There is a money worksheet for homework.
Following PE, the students enjoyed lunch and outdoor recess.
After lunch the students worked on individual reading group assignments and wrote diamante poems to be turned in and graded.
Lions: Read chapter 16 and answered the question, in their RRJ, "What was the sign and did the plan work? Explain."
Bears: Read chapter 4 and wrote a summary in their RRJ.
Crabs: Read chapter 4 and wrote a title for the chapter, with an explanation as to why they chose it, in their RRJ.
We will end the day by making bee sticks to help us cross pollinate our plants and by recording our plants observations in our packets.
